I just discovered something I wish I'd known a long time ago. "Ninety-seven percent of the [LIFE] collection, which stretches from 1860 to today, has never been seen by the public. It's now online for the first time through the joint work of Google and LIFE." from LIFE.com. When you are in google image search just add "source:life" to the end of your subject and viola you have access to LIFE images, and the file sizes are really decent.
